LEST WE FORGET is a large-scale public art installation by UNESCO Artist for Peace Luigi Toscano, featuring larger-than-life photographic portraits of Holocaust survivors as they are today.

Installed in open public spaces, the exhibition brings remembrance beyond museum walls, offering an accessible experience for all. Visitors walk among the faces and stories of those who endured one of history’s darkest chapters — a powerful reminder of the consequences of hatred and the enduring importance of compassion, courage, and human dignity.

Symphony Shabbat

Join us at Temple Israel for a special Shabbat service to commemorate the Holocaust. Following the service, experience Holocaust Composer Stories: Pavel Haas, a powerful presentation and performance by musicians of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra that brings to life the story and music of Czech-Jewish composer Pavel Haas through his String Quartet No. 3. The program will end with a brief musical tribute to Holocaust victims by Rabbi Amy Feder and musicians of the SLSO.

  • 6:30pm Shabbat service followed by a dessert Oneg
  • 7:30pm Holocaust Composer Stories: Pavel Haas program

Lest We Forget: Film Screening & Panel Discussion

Film Screening with Filmmaker Luigi Toscano

Hosted by the St. Louis Kaplan Feldman Holocaust Museum

Sunday, April 19 2026: 12:00-4:30 pm 

Join the Museum for a screening of the documentary, Lest We Forget, the story of German-Italian photographer and filmmaker Luigi Toscano and his journey to meet Holocaust survivors and take their portraits. Following the film, there will be a panel discussion with Luigi Toscana, Dee Dee Simon, Chair of the Missouri Holocaust Education and Awareness Commission, and Rachel Miller, a local Holocaust Survivor who is featured in the exhibition.

Post-panel there will be a short break before an optional 2:00pm bus will depart from the Museum for a tour of the exhibit in Chesterfield. The bus will return to the Museum at 4:30pm

Tickets for the bus are $22 and include a boxed lunch. Tickets must be purchased ahead of time.

Film Screening with Filmmaker Luigi Toscano

Experience the powerful and moving story that has guided German-Italian photographer and filmmaker Luigi Toscano since the beginning of his memory project, Lest We Forget. The film tells the life of Anna Strishkowa, an 81-year old microbiologist from Kyiv, who survived the Auschwitz concentration camp as a young child and still has no traces of her roots. Moved by her story, Luigi takes on the journey to help Anna uncover her true identity. 

Following the film, Luigi Toscano will engage the audience in a discussion.

Exhibition Bus Tour

A special opportunity to join the Missouri History Museum to visit to Lest We Forget, the powerful Holocaust portrait exhibition by Luigi Toscano, UNESCO Artist for Peace. Participants will travel by bus from the Missouri History Museum to The District for a meet-and-greet and private artist-led tour, where Toscano shares the inspiration and human stories behind his moving portraits of Holocaust survivors. This experience is more than a transportation to an exhibition — it is a guided journey designed to encourage personal reflection about memory and remembrance through a group visit to this powerful exhibit. 

Registration Fee: $22 per person

Board a free shuttle from the library for a guided walk-through tour of the Lest We Forget exhibition with creator and artist Luigi Toscano. Lest We Forget is a large-scale public art installation featuring portraits of Holocaust survivors, on view for free from April 16 to May 3, 2026, at The District of St. Louis in Chesterfield, Missouri.
